what is a search engine and how it works: Hello friends, we search for something or the other on the Internet every day, and we use a search engine to search.
When we search for any topic, the search engine shows us tons of results related to our topic.
But do you know what a search engine is? And if you want to know how a search engine works, read this post till the end.

What is a Search Engine
A search engine is a web-based tool (program) that provides users with information from the unlimited database available on the Internet according to their keywords (phrase).
Let’s understand this a bit better. Suppose you need information about what is GPS. Now, when you search this keyword in a search engine,
all the information related to this keyword available on different websites will appear as a list in the search results. You can click on any website link in this list to get its information.
The results related to the keywords we search include text documents, media files (images, audio, video, animations), and so on.
How the search engine works
The main job of a search engine is to search for information present on different web pages and show it to the user as results.
The search engine shows results when the searched keywords match the content title and tags of any web page according to the quality of the content.
A search engine mainly works in 3 ways.
1. Crawling
This is a search process. Crawling means searching for some information from the World Wide Web.
In this process, information about the page’s titles and keywords, how many keywords are in the content, which links are on the website, where the advertisements are, and what the layout of the page is is gathered.
In other words, its job is to scan the website and store the information present there. For this task, robots are used, which are also called crawlers and spiders.
These bots search all new and old web pages, which is called discovery. These are automated bots. They can scan thousands of web pages in just 1 second.
2. Indexing
In this process, the data obtained from crawling is stored in a database, which is called indexing.
And this same data is shown to you as search results when you search in the search engine. Through search engines, all the websites in the world are crawled and indexed.
3. Ranking and Retrieval
This is the last process of a search engine, where the search engine shows the correct information for the keywords being searched by finding user-relevant content.
For this, the search engine uses an algorithm. This algorithm works based on parameters like content quality, content age, title, and keyword usage.
Through ranking and retrieval, it is decided which web page will appear at which position in the search results.
